Synopsis

By 1965's Ooooooweeee!!!, Dusty Springfield had forged a girl-group-influenced style that balanced elements of sassiness and vulnerability to whatever degree the song at hand called for. "I wanna make you happy," she pleads in the song of that name, just after staking a one-night claim on "I'll Love You for a While." This isn't a classic album--the material is not up to the standard of Dusty, its predecessor, and its recycling of two cuts from Stay Awhile/I Only Want to Be with You lends it a vaguely second-hand feel--though it's quite a likable one. --Rickey Wright

CD Reviews

Totally Sixties!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is totally sixties, and if it isn't than I don't know what is. Three songs I like are 'Now That You're My Baby,' 'If Wishes Could Be Kisses' (which is one of Dusty's well-regarded-but-non-charting songs) and one song called 'He's Got Something.' Matter of fact, when her UK-EP 'I Only Want To Be with You' charted, it finally reached No.8 due to the EP's charting. It really ticks me off that this has never been included on her Greatest Hits compilation."
