A folky jangle-pop gem

"This final album by the sadly overlooked Downy Mildew is also their best. A wonderful collection of finely crafted songs, it has a breezy, pastoral feel ... but there's also a dark, edgy undercurrent at times, which prevents it from slipping into merely bland prettiness. Jenny Homer's pure vocals swoop & soar effortlessly, both gentle & assured, sometimes acting as a counterpoint to the quietly unsettling lyrics. There are plenty of catchy hooks here, along with joyful melodies, such as "Left Foot Down" & "A Liar Needs a Good Memory"; but the band can also give us haunting, yearning songs, such as the sublime "Girls by the Lake" & "Them That Dream." It's well worth seeking out ... and at the minimal used price offered these days, you can't go wrong! Recommended!"
