CD ReviewsDovetail Joint Debuts with Consistent Album Rangers516@aol.com | Long Island, New York | 01/29/1999 (3 out of 5 stars) "After listening to the single "Level on the Inside" in October on my local radio station I was excited to finally receive Dovetail Joint's 001 on January 26th. The CD is slightly above average, and I was slightly dissapointed. It opens up with three straight "single worthy" tunes,"Beautiful", "Level on the Inside", and "So Graciously Said". These three are catchy and typical of today's modern rock stations. The rest of the album has only a few bright spots like "Oh My God" and the melodic "Except When You're Late". The problem with this album is that it is very one dimensional and after a while the constant guitar riffs and pop rock refrains get mixed around in your head and you can't tell the difference between them. The lyrics have little denseness and overall quality, they want to be deep and meaningful and express feelings of superficiality and spirituality but fall short in the process. In general, if you are looking for something to hum along and rock out to you probably will be pleased but if you are looking for anything groundbreaking or thought-provoking take a pass on this one." Listen Carefully Vonnie | Charlotte, NC | 08/24/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "I found Dovetail Joint's OO1 in the New Releases bin at a Circuit City. I listened to the opening song "Beautiful" and felt a instant adrenaline rush. I bought the CD and took it home in anticipation. I didn't get what I expected. I expected a band with pretty good guitar riffs and catchy hooks. What I got was a band with Depth and perception. It sounded simple, yet if I LISTENED CAREFULLY, I could here a certain sureness in their music. Let's just say, that when I heard 001, I fully believed these guys were making the best music nobody has heard yet. From the Songwriting in "level on the inside", to the almost lamentful "He we are" to the change ups in "lullaby" I was amazed at the use of sound and texture to make each song different, yet the whole album flowed rather cleanly and evenly. All in all I would tell anyone to buy this album if they like music of any kind. Be it pop, rock, metal, emo, or whatever, Dovetail Joint's 001 Lies about it's simplicity on the surface and let's you into it's world of melody and meaning if you LISTEN CAREFULLY." If you only buy one CD in your lifetime, this is the one G. Abercrombie | Philadelphia, PA | 08/24/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "I own hundreds of CDs and listen to all kinds of music. Lately, there hasn't been anything great as far as new music goes. When I first heard this CD, I was floored instantly. I can't remember the last time I heard something new that made me feel this way. But then I thought "ok, the first song is their strong one, the rest of the album probably isn't good". Well, the second song rocked. Then the third song came on and it rocked even more (one of my favorites). I listened to this disc over and over.Almost two years later as I'm going through my discs deciding what to listen to, I still find myself grabbing Dovetail Joint's 001. For anyone who likes "rock solid rock", this album is for you. You won't be disappointed."
