"Oh boy, another greatist hits compilation from a mid-level country star? Well maybe. But the name of the game in country music is the voice, and Doug Stone brings the big pipes to the party.
Lost in the shuffle of Billy Ray and Billy Ray clones in the early nineties, Doug Stone quietly released some of the best country music of the last twenty years. "Better Off In a Pinebox" stands in a class of two with George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today," And apologies to the Possum here, but "Pinebox" gets the nod.
"A Jukebox With a Country Song" is one of the most requested songs on country radio along with David Lee Murphy's "Party Crowd." There is a reason for that; Great song, great singer.
Amidst all of the flashier acts of the early nineties, Joe Diffie and Doug Stone were true to their honky tonk roots and released some great country records that often were underplayed on country radio.
Treat yourself to this one if you love the honky tonk music."
