Unlike other Doors hits packages, this one is all remixes (not just remastered) from the 40th anniversary collection. When they remixed they went back to the original multi-track tapes and, in this case, can be quite revealing.

In most cases you will hear things that were purposefully not in the original mix. One of the most obvious is on Break On Through where the word "high" was originally edited out. Instead of "she gets..." it is now "she gets high." There are many other examples.

Besides changing the mixes, the remixes bring you closer to the studio with much less analog tape interference than ever before. It makes everything that much clearer.

You could go for each of the Doors individually remixed 40th anniversary studio albums of course, or try it out with this compilation.

Absolutely Unessential
E. Porvaznik | Burbank, CA USA | 01/30/2008
(1 out of 5 stars)

"Oh, goodie, yet another repackaging of a repackaging. Just how many times are the powers-that-be going to trot out yet another collection of Doors music anyway??? At least the fact "The End" is an edited version means this one's an absolute NOT buy.

For the uninitiated, get the latest remastered 2-disc collection. For the initiated, well, we already own all the remasters anyway."
Awesome Mix

"The mix and improved sound of these classics is incredible. The sound is so crisp that you here the guitar pick hitting the strings of the guitar. The rocker "Roadhouse Blues" mix sends new chills up the spine. Get it!!!"
