CD Reviews

Great recordings back in print
Ursiform | Torrance, CA USA | 04/01/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of these concerti for years. I first encountered the second on an LP of my father's with the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra conducted by Howard Hanson, and the first on an old cassette played by, as I recall, Eugene List. I've heard several versions over the years, but the original release of this recording is the one I continue to listen to. These are two solid, lovely, late romantic piano concerti, and Amato and Freeman give them the right flavor. More European than American--although usually championed by American artists--these performances present them on their terms, and the result is wonderful. And now at a bargain price!

(The solo fillers weren't on the original CD, and I haven't heard them. But the concerti are more than worth the price of this release.)"
