CD ReviewsSummertime Sensuality Peter Durant | Stony Point, NY United States | 12/15/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "I listened to this CD all summer long, driving to the beach in New Jersey. When the weather is warm and sultry , this music is tops." A Surprisingly nice album bordersj2 | Boston | 01/12/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "Rinaldo spearheads the production work for the majority of this album along with Andrea. With a plethora of outstanding musicians and vocalists contributing, including the likes of Marco Bianchi (of Idizioni Ishtar/Schema records), there's a wealth of talent on display. For whatever reason I thought this might be a Tam-Tam Studios or Irma release however it was actually released on Cool Division records, a label that has some very nice compilations like Blacktronic, Jazz No Jazz or Mystic Diversions. Some of those even feature former Schema dj/producer Bruno Bolla.
This album pleasantly surprised me. The music's terrific and it has a nice charm to it, although the first two songs weren't my favorites on the cd. But "Nao Diga Nao", which I first heard on a Bossa A La Mode cd was fantastic. The gentle samba styled beat to it and live instruments were a very nice touch, along with the vibraphone, which to me defines the easy, lounge vibe of this CD. The mood is expressed perfectly with the whispy vocals. That's followed up with a very nice version of "Preciso Perdoar". There've been quite a few renditions of this song but the again, Donati does a great job of establishing the mood and it's consistent here. "Papo No Jardim" was one of my favorite tracks here, the sound of children in the background (sampled) gives the song a sense of warmth and charm. "Esquinas" was a good instrumental piece with trumpet/flugelhorn. I'd recommend this, it's a very nice album. Though I'm a little late in the game to Donati's albums (there are now 3 of them with the latest being released just a few months ago), I intend to check out the others. Not all of the songs grabbed me - admittedly I didn't fall for some of the songs in the second half of the cd. But you do get a sense that Donati put in a great deal of effort into the production of this album because I actually like the sound quality (through 'great' speakers). From there you can hear the details in the music, which is where Donati's a cut above. If you like Schema works from Paulo Fedreghini and Marco Bianchi, The Dining Rooms, Irma jazz series and maybe even Bob Dusi, you'll like this one. Also, if only momentarily, it reminded me a little of "Brazilian Boots" album." |
