"How come Shirley is so admire overseas, and the USA has yet to enter him into any hall of fame of consequence? No matter what the style,the period he chooses from, he has an uncanny ability to enter itno the spirit of the actual piece - his gospel is soul-boosting soul, his love songs can be heart-breaking, he can rage in tremendous chords where one expects him to have hundreds of fingers, he can produce a single line pianissimo that almost defies credulity. I cannot believe, as a collector of Don Shirley records from the old days of vinyl to CDs, that I have somehow never managed to get this one. I am stoked! As a pianist myself, I am happy to remain in his shadow and under his tutelage."
