Early Ellis, before the big band or electronic sound effects

"Don Ellis displays a range of improvisation perhaps unmatched by later works, and a genius for rhthmic quirks that became 5/4 and 7/4 (and 33/16 !) on those more-popular crossover albums. This is straighforward jazz interplay with trumpet, bass, drums, piano, and vibraphone. Good vibrations!"

"But . . . start with Electric Bath, Autumn, and Live at Fillmore.Ellis great genius is more accessible in some of his other works. His jazz orchestra work definitely made his mark, and those three are at the top of the list."
