"This is a good record with several worthy songs. For whatever reason, I haven't gone back to listen to it though much over the last several years. There's not always a clearly logical reason why this happens. It's not like a made a conscious decision that this record wasn't worthy of my time. I guess you could say that there have been many other records that I've discovered and enjoyed since, leaving less time for an older record in my collection.There are two exceptions to this, however. Two songs that I still go back to hear. Those are 'Helen' and 'Jean Harlowe's Return', both of which speak to me in a way that I find very moving, especially 'Jean Harlowe's Return'. This song has a habit of reducing me to tears (don't tell anyone!). For me, it provokes many different feelings, such as, lost hope, clinging-by-a-hair hope, unrequited dreams, sadness and desperation. It also conjures up a time when movies stars were even more idealized than they are now, reflecting an innocence of those times that no longer exists.Now, whether or not Don Dixon had some of these concepts in mind with this song, I have no idea. Afterall, we interpret these things from our own unique perspectives. That's why you'll get a million different viewpoints when it comes to music!For those unfamiliar with Don Dixon's work, I would suggest a rough similarity to John Hiatt in terms of overall style. If you like one, then you'd PROBABLY like the other."
