CD ReviewsExcellent recording 07/23/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "The first two tracks DON'T set the pace for the rest of the CD: they are more danceable, and rythmic. Overall, excellent tracks. The other pieces are often dark (e.g. "The Siriu.s. Expeditions"), with a great taste for the sounds. To me, it's a bit less fascinating than Redunjusta, but still a great CD." Sirius hex traditions J. murry | 08/14/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Dogon. The Sirius Expeditions. The minimalist cover art speaks well to the contents of this cd. Although it does occasionally tip upward into a somewhat beat oriented vibe, most of the material on this disc is decidedly low key.
on a song by song basis: Pah:: Pulsing odd dogma. I gave this cd to one of my co-workers and her first question was 'Are they saying "pot" in that sample?'. The 'Pah' sounds like 'pot', i guess. An interesting way to open an album. Dungsick:: interesting, Dogon has decided to weave parts of the album together by including elements from the previous song in the next one. Dungsick isn't the best song on this disc, but it certainly doesn't suck. The Round Buddha Factory:: I used to play this one a lot on "Music for a New Age" on KCHO in Chico. I love the space that this song creates. Fat Old Sun:: Perhaps the best cover that i've ever heard of a Pink Floyd song. Kudos. Joven Flaca Luna:: Electronic deviation of Fat Old Sun. Neat. Plexus:: I like the content of the sampled conversations, i like the way they are spliced in, but i don't like the overall feel of this one. The worst track of the bunch, in my opinion. Far too much of a conscious Orb emulation. The Sirius Expeditions:: Another one that i used to use when i was doing the radio show. things begin to get very interesting at this point in the cd. very spacy and somewhat melodic. Melonheart:: another track with a bit of the 'orb' vibe, but still less concerned with having a beat and possibly a hit. Locus Voci:: A long, flowing electronic piece. The Unknowable:: another long electronic piece, this one is even quieter than locus voci. Both are very interesting to me, and have been useful in various mixes. overall, i gave this cd four of five stars because it is not perfect, but it does many things very well." |
