"Doc sounds wonderful on this recording. The arrangements (and production) by Jeff Tyzik of these classic jazz standards are stunning. The players include Earnie Watts, Lee Ritenour and Peter Erskine. The mix is very clear allowing all players to be appreciated to thier fullest."
An Elegant and Excellent CD

"Doc Severinsen and Jeff Tyzik (himself a trumpeter), collaborated on this wonderful and soon to be classic Jazz release. It is apparent that Tyzic had the synergy and forethought to account for the talents of Doc in compiling this CD. In my extensive CD collection this compact disc is atop the listening pile. My favorite cuts on this CD are the selections written by Mr. Tyzik himself. Cuts as, "City Lights, Siciliano, and Crystal Garden" are phenomenal: This is Jazz at its harmonious best. Jeff Tyzik is a master arranger because he charted many of the other contained selections: He produced the compact disc as well.Several years ago Jazziz Magazine (as if this matters), listed this CD as one of the decades best CDs. Their music critics have been wrong on many other CDs but not on this particular choice. On the date of this scribe I saw that there were four used CDs to be found at Amazons website. This should not be so...I mean why would anyone in their right mind want to sell this very fine release? Are they that hard up for money? Buy this fantastic release; I reiterate, in later years it will be considered a Jazz classic."
Not the "Tonight Show" Doc!

"The only time I had ever heard Doc Severensen were the cheesy 10 second cut-away and cut-back music on "The Tonight Show" years ago, and who can forget Doc's equally cheesy ties.
But when a friend let me listen to this CD I was blown away at what this veteran trumpeteer blows out! Every track is a piece of sonic candy to the ears. Doc's modern arrangements of jazz standards are wonderfully done complementing Doc's smooth playing, and when mixed with the "round table" of the studio musician scene makes "Facets" an awesome collection of music that will never reside as a dust collector in your music library."
