Elegant, Graceful and Surprising

"Haydn composed these at 25. In a weird way they could represent Haydn the way the Eroica represents Beethoven or the '48' represent Bach. Haydn lovers know that it's difficult to find a set of his works that can 100% represent him. He spread his inspiration out too thin. These works are consistently inspired in the way you think of Haydn and surprisingly so. Haydn is elegant, graceful, and not profound. Ponder his op. 76 and his London symphonies all you want. The performance and recording are excellent."
