"I eagerly awaited the reissue of these two albums on one CD. In the 1980's I had both of the vinyl records. "I Put Away My Idols" was the 3rd of the Christian albums put out by Dion, and was nominated for a Grammy in the Gospel category. For the Christian, this record is loaded with pure Christian encouragment and personal testimony. The lyrics are compelling and based on sound Bible doctrine. I especially like the song "They Won't Tell You". It is a song blasting the deceit being put out by the media of the day. A couple of smooth slower offerings are on the album also, including a beautiful duet entitled "Day of the Lord". One song .."Daddy" ..is so touching , that tears actually filled my eyes the first time I ever heard it. Not being the "sentimental type" .. I was surprised .. to say the least.
The album "Kingdom in the Street" has various styles of music on it, and has something for everybody to enjoy. One song .. titled "Crazy Too" .. has a neat doo-wah sound .. reminiscent of the old Dion and the Belmont days. I am particularly fond of the driving rock tunes on this album. The songs "Only God Can Make a Change" .. and "You only Go 'Round Once" ... are hard-hitting songs pertaining to eternal matters .. and Dion doesn't hold back his punches. I think that any Christian will truly enjoy this disc. It has a little something for everybody, and so gently relects Dion's love of God in several tunes... especially the songs "Healing" .. and "Come to the Cross" I highly recommend this CD.. whole-heartedly.. to everyone !!"

"First of all this is very good music and full of excellent performances .
I mean song like "They won't tell you " deserve to be heard today as examples of real good craftmanship in songwriting . This song keep you interested all along. "My prayer for you " is beautiful beyond words and so simple . Simplicity and truth , real good music.
The songs in "I put away my idols " are really , really very inspired.
"Kingdom in the streets " is a fine record too so there is a change in sound , but Dion shows that he is a rocker second to none and deliver some fantastic ballad performances in "Come to the cross " and "He's in you ".
I recomend to anyone the 4 gospel records by Dion or I would say
the 5 . You won't regret at all to listen to these records . And in the process you will lear something about how to be an honest artist .
The gospel legacy of Dion will stand the test of time....wait and see"

"For anyone interested in contemporary Christian music like myself who cut their teeth listening to Dion and the Belmonts during the rock 'n roll era, this type of cd is for you."

"I heard these (then) cassettes when they were first released as a teenager in KC. Tremendous lyrics mixed with classic Dion sounds make for an enjoyable listening experience. If you know Dion's story and you stop and hear what he's saying here -- its pretty profound. Everyone I have allowed to hear any part of this two-in-one cd collection has absolutely loved it -- it's not preachy -- it's simply Dion's story -- it's what he found to be true and faithful in his life. Good stuff!"
Gospel/Christian with flair, rock, reggae, doo wop, bluesy..

"Dion's other take on music, gospel/Christian, is absolutely enjoyable, mainly because you don't lose any inkling of the man, his voice, and his style. This is rock, reggae, bluesy, doo wop. Some songs are written by Dion and the CD offers music one has never or rarely heard of. You won't find the standards here.
The lyrics are backed by his usual array of instruments, lead, rhythm and accoustic guitars, drums, percussion, systhesizer, congas.
It's his unique true to Dion style that makes this gospel genre unique, refreshing and fun! I love it. What is neat is that listening to this isn't going to require that "right time to hear gospel"; it is great anytime without feeling the need for a Christian mood.
If you have not ever read in his website, you will discover how his Spiritual Journey brought him back home to Mount Caramel Catholic Church and revealing to the Farther where he had been and Father Frank stretched out his arms and said, "Dion welcome home." Dion broke down. A wonderful story!
I highly recommend this Dion Live in Concert DVD; it is excellent!
