CD Reviews

70's funk with 2000 style
Rob | Sydney, Australia | 08/29/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is the perfect party album whether there are two of you or 100. Dimitri moves away from the lounge style of Sacre Bleu and with tongue in cheek gives us 70's funk with a 2000 feel. This album has Hip Hop, House, disco and a beat that just gets you moving. This album restored some faith in 70's music and reminded me that it wasn't all bland disco but also a decade that created some incredible funk. Dimitri remixes such classics as Ashford and Simpson's 'Found a Cure', Outro Lugar (great Latin beat), Give me Love, Shangri-La and Reach Inside. However, he does not just re-mix but transforms them into amazing house beat rhythms. It was amazing to hear the bass line from Give Me Love as it launces into a full house mixed version of the track (this bass line has been sampled in numerous house tracks over the years). This CD is party central. It is joyful, soulful, funky and above all pure dance. The liner, notes as always with Dimitri, are wonderfully tongue in cheek as he rips apart the world of faux-sophistication. Buy this CD and dance!"
If You're Looking For The Funk...
Blackberries | PA | 10/24/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the funkiest, bounciest, wildest most fun record I have. I'll sum it all up with a brief anecdote...My friends came over my house after school the other day to do a report. None of us are really big fans of dance or disco music, but for some strange reason, I then thought about how I liked this album when my older brother used to listen to it, so I decided to put it on while we were working. I didn't know what they'd think of it. I thought at least they'd get a laugh out of it, as this album is like nothing they had ever heard. My presuppositions couldn't have been more off. After about two minutes into the first track, we completely abandoned our report and just danced around the room like freaks for the duration of the 70 minute disco-funk parade. It's seriously that entrancing. Never put this on if you're trying to get work done. You really won't be able to do a thing but groove. For all other moments in your day though, I highly recommend this album."
Disco with Soul

"People who have a bad image of disco usually think of such cheese as Ring My Bell. But there is a lot of disco that came straight out of Philadelphia soul, the Gamble & Huff school and the like. Dimitri from Paris perfectly captures this more soulful vein of disco on this perfect mix. This disc is a great favourite of mine."
