"...is the only way to describe this wall o' sound that is at once incredibly heavy and yet melodic. Not the kind of 80's metal/classical/obvious melody that you probably thought of when I said that. This stuff sneaks up on you, taps you on the shoulder and plants a huge, jagged hook under your jawbone. The songs don't feel like constructions; they feel like they sprang to life as wholely realized expression. From almost the opening words, "All I need is this city and it's mine and I will get by..." I was captured. This CD is polished, professional, (musical),incredible. Devin Townsend is the Real Deal--a true composer, and one of the most, shall we say, committed vocalists I've heard. Drummer Gene Hoglan needs no introduction to afficianados, but the rest of you only need to know that his status is deservedly legendary. Running the gamut from epic sledgehammer to ludicrous speed and not for the faint of heart, this suprisingly thoughtful CD is essential for anyone who's not scared yet. Buy it, listen to it, let it wash over you. Devin Townsend music is my new addiction; wanna try some?"

"Devin Townsend strikes again with "City", assembling one of the most potent bands in metal history - Gene Hoglan (D), Jed Simon (G), and Byron Stroud (B) provide the listener (or victim) with some of the most inspired playing to date. If you liked Fear Factory's "Demanufacture" get "City" and become a believer."

"From the opening bars, to the closing cords, this album won't let up. On first hearing this album I couldn't belive the speed and intensity. Listen to other bands classed as 'heavy', then listen to this and you'll KNOW what the word 'heavy' means. I've no favourite songs on this album, for me there all great. The only album that actually left me with a sore ears. Buy it!"
