"If you love your metal loud, ultra-heavy, fast and furious with an eye-popping, god-bashing, Christ punching sound, then this CD is for you! This CD certainly must represent the largest change in sound between a band's debut and sophomore album releases. Deride's first CD, "Scars of Time", was fairly heavy and relatively decent, but the band was nowhere near the league of their Scandinavian contemporaries, Meshuggah, Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Immortal, and Soilwork. As implied above, Deride's 2nd release, "First Round Knockout", is a monumental metal effort that propels them into the realm of the best metal heavyweights. Not only is "First Round Knockout" much heavier than its predecessor, its also a far better CD, with the band maintaining a consistent, punishing sound from beginning to end. Its a shame that very few people will read this review, and even fewer will actually buy the CD. "First Round Knockout" is one of the best heavy metal release in the last few years. Also check out "Sons of Northern Darkness" by Immortal and "Damage Done" by Dark Tranquility."
