"This CD single is very good, no doubt about it. The song Surrender almost killed me, that's how good I think it is. Yet the title song isn't quite as good as the Ultra stuff, although it's not a bad song. The instrumental track isn't too bad, but instrumentals can't interest me too much, they never do. I need lyrics and voices. Surrender should have been the A-side, no doubt about it. I can't wait for a new album, which will hopefully be released before 2000...let's now hope the third world war will come a little later...what about never, than we'll have many more beautiful albums"
I always lose myself in this song..........

""it's Only when I lose myself in some one else, that I find myself." Who else could say that so well besides DM?Nobody. This may be a new song, but I must say it's a classic in my muzik collection. And not just for "OWILM" but for the b-side "Surrender" it must be the most passion-flavouring songs i've ever heard come out of David's voice. If you don't buy it for the great mixes of "OWILM" but it for "Surrender",you will be satisfied."
Outstanding Depeche Mode pure

"This single was long forthcoming and is well worth the wait. Since the last album, Depeche Mode have turned their direction to melodious, soft tunes, which have brought great, undeserved criticism from some of their old fans. "Only when I loose myself" is a typical Depeche Mode track with noisy synths and heavy bassline, but definetly modernized by their softer tunes. The lyrics are introverted, similar to "Somebody" and "Shake the disease", and Dave Gahan's voice carries its message beautifully. Sadly, thou, there is no new great Album to accompany this single, but just a Greatest Hits compilation. Personally, this single is the greatest single for me since "Never let me down again" in 1987. I guess, we've all grown up since :-) If you are a fan, it's a must have. If you are just getting into the group's music it's a prime candidate. if you love pop, you should not miss it. 6 stars, if I could :-)"

"This is a CD I can't seem to take out of my car!!! I must have listened to it a hundred times. The title song relaxes me and clears my mind, something I need every now and then. The lyrics to the title song are so passionate. They truly tell how powerful attraction can be for another person. Excellent!!!"
Near perfect

"Only When I Lose Myself is a great song, which should have been on an album. In fact, it would have been the highlight of Ultra. But instead it was tossed on a single as an afterthought. This song is sexy and sensual, as is expected of Depeche Mode. Dave Gahan's voice on this track is beautiful, especially when he hits the word 'heaven'.
As amazing as this single is, the real treat is Surrender, which, without a doubt, should have been on an album. It would have been right at home on albums like Violator and Songs Of Faith And Devotion, and could have easily been the standout of Ultra and Exciter. This is as sexy as any Depeche Mode song, and I think those who like World In My Eyes will love this song. The music is bluesy and throbs under your skin, and the bassline is superb. This CD is worth it for this song alone, which is bound to become a DM classic.
But that's not all you're getting. There's two remixes of OWILM, the Dan The Automator remix being the best (the music is barer, and Dave's voice really shines here because of it). There's also Headstar, an instrumental, which is one of the better DM instrumentals, as well as a remix of it.
This is an outstanding CD and, overall, easily one of the best DM singles out there."
