Renegade Spirits is the new recording by Texas trumpet titan, Dennis Gonzalez. His sons, Aaron and Stefan, play with him in his Yells at Eels trio and join him on bass and drums. New Orleans saxophonist Tim Green lights up the set with his his fiery tenor. Add to that potent mix the global rhythmic sensibilities of the legendary Famoudou Don Moye, on loan from the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and it s plain to see this group means business.

A mixture of composed tunes and improvisations, Renegade Spirits brings the voodoo in the best possible way. And for fans of rhythmic improv, there is, well, more percussion than you can shake a stick at.
