Synopsis

Singer-guitarist Deke Dickerson's 1998 debut (Number One Hit Record!) was a well-focused mix of rockabilly, Western swing, and R&B. On this sophomore outing, he breezes through oldies like "Let the Good Times Roll" and "So Long I'm Gone." Among his first-rate originals are "I'm a Wreck," the witty "I Think You Gotta Pay for That" (a duet with ex-Big Sandy pianist Carl "Sonny" Leyland), and the plaintive, dramatic "I Gave My Heart Before." Dickerson's fearsome guitar virtuosity drives the instrumentals "Tropical Island Boogie Serenade" and "Rockin' Gypsy." Less impressive is his tame spin on Johnny Horton's "Mean Son of a Gun," and R&B legend Hadda Brooks's talents are utterly wasted on "You're My Cadillac." But the real problem here isn't musical; it's Dickerson's self-indulgent obsession with campy in jokes. While a smart blend of music and humor is one thing, the silly introduction, inane song parodies (including one of the Beverly Hillbillies closing theme), and ending sound bites all get old rather quickly. --Rich Kienzle

CD Reviews

Deke and the boys never fail to please!

"I first heard of Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-Fonics when they rolled through town about one year ago...my friends and I were instantly addicted. This is the best new music we had heard in years! You can sing along, dance to it, and just have a plain ol' good time listening to it! Their first album has reached legendary status with the local rockabilly's. And this second album is well on its way. The lyrics and music are well-written and entertaining for your listening pleasure! "More Million Sellers" is rock n' roll at its best! Buy it and enjoy!"
The Deke is back!

"Guitar-fiends and fans of roots rock'n'roll take note - Deke Dickerson is back with another fabulous album. As anyone who has checked out his incredible live show will know, Deke Dickerson is great fun to listen to, whether he's hamming it up or shredding on the guitar. Some live favorites are here, and some great guest appearances (eg. Billy Zoom from X) ... if you get the chance to see Deke live, PLEASE GO, because for all the energy and fun he packs into his recordings, he's even better live. Until he comes to your town, however, you need to take a listen to Deke's "...Million Sellers"."
Freaky Deke !

"Deke comes to Nashville a lot, and I try to catch him everytime he's in town. His live shows are always energetic and exciting and just plain fun. I like the Jerry Lee Lewis inspired tracks on the cd and the goofy stuff like My Name Is Deke (and I am freaky ? ). However, he truly shines on the track I Gave My Heart Before. That is the song that made me sit back and say, hey, he's not just a goofball, he has a great voice and he's quite the songwriter. How do you spell fun ? DEKE. Maybe someday he'll get the radio exposure he deserves."
