"Ciccolini's Debussy is simply sensational. If you have only heard his playing of Satie, you're in for a treat.



At this price - currently about $10 from sellers on amazon - it is not to be missed. I too own Gieseking's classic recordings, but find myself returning to Ciccolini far more often, not necessarily for his technique (Geiseking is in a class by himself - particularly in his earlier 1930s recordings ) , but also for the transparency of the recording itself. Clarity of sound and the relative silence of these ADD recordings do matter in the sound world of Debussy.



Be forewarned that this import contains the five discs in a plastic jewel case, with the fifth discs on the "back of" the fourth. More over, the case itself is a lesser grade, thinner, plastic. It's tricky getting the discs on and off the spindles.



But the quality of the music on the discs themselves is first class. Others may debate nuance. But these performances remain classics. Ciccolini deserves to sit alongside Geiseking on your shelf.



At this price they are a steal."
