"David Sills is an awesome new force in straight ahead jazz. He has mastered his tenor, with an ability to make his horn effortlessly soar to any level. But he isn't just a technical wizard. He has a deep understanding of 50's and 60's jazz, and brings his own sense of style to these classics. Listen to his version of Soul Eyes. Incredible breath control and lyrical brilliance. His taste is refined, selecting tunes to cover that offer him plenty of room to explore deely into each song's heart. He's also composed a few songs that demonstrate his originality as well as his technical chops.I got to hear David play live many times when I worked at Steamers Cafe in Fullerton, California, and I can assure you his musisianship and talent is real. This CD offers a very good example of what he can do. But see him live if you can, because he is even better in person, when he can stretch out and dig longer and deeper into the music."
