""Skeleton Key" contains 11 tracks of blues/rock music that extends boundaries. He co-produced the recording in his hometown of Nanaimo, British Columbia with Rick Salt providing technical assistance and final mixes. While the instrumentation includes keyboards, guitars, drums and bass like previous releases, "Skeleton Key" demanded textures in the form of additional vocals and horns. But the essence of the music is still David Gogo's voice and his guitar."David's guitar playing sings and stings with every bit as much emotional authority as Jimi, Stevie and early Eric. I love it!" said Bill Henderson of Chilliwack fame upon first hearing the record.Like his successful "Halfway to Memphis" release, Gogo is accompanied by a strong band of supporters. Bill Hicks (drums), Todd Sacerty (bass), Gerry Barnum (harmonica), Brendan Hedley and Rick Hopkins (keyboards) are back again, with additions Melisa Devost (vocals), Kyle Burrows (Rhodes), Pierre Komen, Earle Gibson and Tina Jones (horns & vocals). The album is released in standard jewel case packaging, but a collector's edition DigiPak version is available for a limited time. This version contains extra bonus tracks and Gogo's own track-by-track description of the songs.Along with six original tunes, Gogo covers seven interesting and varied songs by Albert Collins, Otis Rush and Willie Dixion. Rock 101's host of Sunday Blues, Storman Norman observed, "I'd swear Albert has came back to haunt us when I listen to "Backstroke". Hebe PROUD o the boy!" But, Gogo always adds a few new surprises. His twist this time is unexpected tracks by Stevie Wonder and Curtis Mayfield. Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" has been selected as the CD's first radio single and has been charted on several Canadian rock stations.
Blues Free Press in the United Kingdom wrote, "Canadian archetypal Blues-rocker David Gogo has a new album poised for release and it's a MONSTER. When delivery of "Skeleton Key" reaches your local store it will probably arrive in an armoured truck with a heavily armed police escort. Watch out, watch out coz Gogo's about!""

"David Gogo's been touring in WNY, and I've seen his show twice. It's filled with energy, and vocals and instrumentals are about as good as it gets in Blues/Rock. Go see him if you get the chance.
This album captures all the energy of his live performance, and adds that increment of recording quality that comes from studio recording. This disk sounds great - obviously very professional quality equipment and technique was used."
