DAVID BROMBERG AT ANY TIME

"Back in 1973 at a small club in Philadelpha called "Grendle's Lair" i first saw and heard "the David Bromberg experience". i have been a fan and devoted listener to his music ever since. (Back in those days David had many of the finest artists record on his tracks . . . George Harrison, Emmylou Harris, Ricky Scaggs and many others who respected his musical artistry . . . he had been a sideman guitarist with Jerry Jeff Walker.)
This album, "Midnight On The Water" is one of his best contibutions. My favorite tracks on it are the really rockin' blues number "I Like To Sleep Late In The Morning" -- the truly bluesy, "Don't Put That Thing On Me" -- the hyped-up bluegrass of , "Dark Hollow".
The most evocative picture-painting instrumental track is the title cut: "Midnight On The Water" . . . just beautiful and even languishingly swampy.
One track that has speacial meaning for me because it was a high point of the live performance I attended in Philadelphia back in 1973 . . .complete with audience participation singing background at the concert is "Mr. Blue". David delivers it with the appropriate sadness tinged into his voice.
This album will undoubtedly last and last and last as his "high-point" contribution to America's musical heritage. David defies locking into any genre . . he's simply an artist . . . and an artist's artist . . no gimmicks . . no studio techno-manipulations and overtracking . . .just straight-out plain talent.
Thanks David Bromberg for the classic tracks you have layed down for us and for the ages!"

"My parents had this album when I was young. I remembered liking it but, with my own growth, my appreciation of the complexity and beauty of the music is now ten fold. The level of musicianship which is shared on this recording is of the highest talent and the quality of this Columbia recording is the highest of any CD I've ever been exposed to. Of course, David Bromberg's voice is a timeless, soothing concotion which, in conjunction with his master instrumentations, he is capable of effortlessly gifting to the listener, a perfect sound and feeling of almost any style of music."
