CD Reviews

It's Fresh and Loud!
Martin A Hogan | San Francisco, CA. (Hercules) | 09/11/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The `Original' Ziggy Stardust and the Spider From Mars album has been completely remastered and developed into 5.1 surround sound. The clarity is impeccable and every guitar, every keyboard and every vocal is separated naturally to give you the feeling that you are there in the studio. Its fresh! This rare SACD/DSD is a hybrid, so you can play it on a stereo CD player, but you'll be missing that total enveloping sound. More photos and liner notes are included than in previous reissues and the jewel box is extra strong in structure.

But the main thing is the music. This was Bowie at his best in the early seventies and Rolling Stone magazine has called this album one of the best rock albums of all time. Standout cuts are, "Moonage Daydream" for Mick Ronson's guitar solo, "Hang On To Yourself" for pure manic rock and roll and, of course, the classic "Suffragette City" with its famous bridge of, "Wham bam, thank you, m'am". Don't forget, that like the original album, this SACD states, "To Be Played At Maximum Volume". And you should!"
