"I purchased this CD because of the excellent reviews in Downbeat and Jazz Times. This is a reissue of a date done by Dave in the late 1950's in a trio setting. I am most familiar with Dave in a solo setting, thus I was blown away by this performance. If you love Jazz piano as much as I do, GET THIS. It ranks with my Bill Evans trio stuff as all time faves, and this swings harder!"

"Dave McKenna is mostly known for his beautiful solo playing--playing in which he simultaneously plays the melody, adds a bass line, and comps a chord harmony--as if he had three hands. This album, however, is quite different. It's from 1958, and it's a trio recording. Compared to his solo playing, his piano work is sparse--or perhaps "lean" would be a better term. He sounds a bit like Bud Powell here. Clean, fast, very musical. This is one of my 4 or 5 favourite jazz CDs of all time, and I highly recommend it."
