CD ReviewsI'm playin' "PLAYIN' THE MAN" over and over! 05/18/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "In "PLAYIN" THE MAN," Dave Hall stuns with his rocking shocking eye-opening opener, "Do You Remember?" and, joyfully, doesn't stop. Skillfully crafted stick-in-your-head lyrics and bouncy folk-rock guitar, make you shake along to the beat. The Beatle-esque "Can't Get Enough Of You" is exciting enough to make you rush over and hit the repeat button. "He Doesn't Know" deserves a video to match the powerful imagery and vocals, while "Setting Sun," a passionate cry against life cut short, is sure to become a classic. "Zoe and Chloe," a frighteningly on-target topical ballad reminiscent of Tracy Chapman, reveals the true angelic quality of Hall's voice. "Colors Don't Run" is an atmospheric masterpiece of harmony and lyric. On the last track, Hall surprises us with the uproarious "Fillin' Station Dog" where he croons and howls wanting to curl up to you. Hall does, and you'll enjoy the company."
