"This review refers to the CD of "Migration/Dave Grusin"
If you are a fan of the film "The Milagro Beanfield War", and it's wonderful soundtrack, and have been looking for it's music on CD, you will find it here included in this fabulous jazzy delight from Dave Grusin.
Every track is a real treat for fans of Grusin and Jazz, as well as the film. An all instrumental, upbeat, light and airy feel, will have you replaying this CD over and over. These fabulous arrangements with Grusin on keyboards, feature some great musicians, including Branford Marsalis on Soprano Sax on "Punta Del Soul", and Tenor Sax on "Dancing in the Township" and a rousing "T.K.O." Other tracks included are "Southwest Passage", "Western Women", a wonderful rendition of "In the Middle of the Night", and a sweet and refreshing "Polina", featuring Hugh Masekela on Flugelhorn.
The Suite from the "Milagro Beanfiled War" is the icing on the cake. It's a wonderful southwest feel with "Lupita", "Coyote Angel"(this was definitive of this feel good film), "Pistolero", "Milagro" and "Fiesta".
There are a 14 delicious tracks in all. The first 9 all run a really good length, from 4 minutes to almost 7 minutes each. The Suite from Milagro has shorter but most enjoyable tracks that flow nicely. A fine quality recording that will give you a lift on long drives or around the house or office. A booklet with all credits is included.
I live in an apartment building and at least 3 people have stopped by my patio to ask what CD this is. It's highly contagious, feel good stuff!
Enjoy....Laurie

"I am somewhat partial because this is the first cd that introduced me to Dave Grusin. First I fell in love with New Mexico, then I loved the movie "Milagro Beanfield Wars", then I loved the book (trilogy). "Suite from Milagro Beanfield Wars" is haunting. "Lupita" is comical. Those tracks not from the movie are truly refreshing. This cd is our FAVORITE long driving trip companion. Essential if you are headed for Sante Fe/Taos."

"This album provides a serene escape with its melodic poetry. I have owned this album for 10 years, and return to it frequently to be put in a trance. The album is worth owning solely for the Milagro Beanfield suite."
Almost greatest album for Dave Grusin!

"This was the first cd from Dave Grusin, wich i bought in 2000 summer. In the same year 2000 january i just was listening "Migration" song clips... and there was one song wich was the totally awesome ?Southwest Passage! That song did made a my biggest musical impression, what i have ever had. I'm a sort of musiciant and play piano/keyboards my self and also play drums as well too. I did done a arrangement for "Southwest Passage". Even now that song is great to perform the live audience as a cover song course. My biggest jazz idol is Dave Grusin totally."

"Kick back and relax to the tunes of Dave Grusin in his Migration CD. Mellow, but not a snoozer, this CD fits the tastes of those who know good music."
