CD Reviews
Prince who? "Last Great Kiss" for song of 1999

"Darryl Purpose has jumped from any label in the folk world and moved into the realm of "legend". He takes the acoustic guitar places that it didn't even know it could go. Even better is the lyrical material. "Last Great Kiss of the 20th Century" should be in every CD Player when that ball drops on NY. If "Mr. Schwinn" doesnt make you cry every time you hear it then you're not human. If you can't see him live then this is the next best thing! Don't miss these 11 songs from an absolutely fantastic storyteller."
Best Darryl Purpose yet!

"I found out about Darryl Purpose on MP3.com, and I was genuinely surprised: here is a great artist, so why doesn't everyone know about him? I first found him because I was looking for singers and songwriters along the lines of James Taylor. And, in fact, there's an obvious similarity in some parts of "Right Side of Zero". But, Darryl Purpose has a sound, and a set of themes, all his own. And, after his third album (that I know of) he hasn't gotten stale or repetitious -- in fact he's better than ever."
Very honest and emotional beautifully sung prose

"Having all of Darryl's CDs in my collection, I am enthusiastically giving this new one rave reviews! I love his style of guitar picking which is very prevalent in Smoke & Mirrors. But most of all it's Darryl's honest storytelling style of singing that really reaches out to folks. Child of Hearts sounds so hopeful when he sings "but please mr. stranger don't give up on me." Ring On My Hand is now my favorite wedding song. I get a tear in my eye when I listen to it. The Last Great Kiss of the 20th Century is witty and light. Travelers' Code (Follow the Light) is a lovely folk song with nice harmonies and gives you a good feeling when you hear it. The entire CD is full of emotions. Just listen to it once and a person will want to hear Darryl's earlier works too."

"I don't know where to start, I have so many things to say, that my mind is drawing a blank. My favorites are Child of Hearts, the updated Last Great Kiss, Travelers' Code, and True as the River, although I still don't understand that last one fully. Darryl's songs make me think and help me feel human. I eagerly await his next concert in our area!"
This album is full of clever lyrics and great melodies.

"Traveler's Code is a wonderful follow up to Darrly Purpose's previous CD, "Less than Zero." Darrly's strong and expressive singing voice provides the perfect complement to his excellent guitar-playing and wonderfully crafted original songs. Offerings range from movingly sentimental, in "Ring on my Hand" to rocking and humorous, in "Last Great Kiss." The songs are intelligent, melodious and original - it's a great CD!!"
