Synopsis

Album Description
2008 two CD debut album from the Hardcore DJ and producer. Since bursting on the scene a decade ago, he has gone on to achieve great commercial success in the mainstream Dance arena, both as a writer and producer and, more recently, as a vocalist. Skydivin' features new material and all the best of Darren Styles across two discs: the first one with the biggest and best in new and classic Hardcore, the second encompassing the commercial side of Darren's work. As a writer he has been responsible for Ultrabeat's #2 hit 'Pretty Green Eyes' and 'Feelin' Fine' as well as further Top Twenty hits for Kelly Llorenna and Flip & Fill. As a performer he has achieved great success with Ultrabeat and he has also just collaborated with N-Force. Having been around since the early to mid-90's, Darren is still the biggest DJ and producer on the Hardcore scene and now making huge in-roads in the commercial sector. UMTV.

CD Reviews

If you took the top 15 songs..you'd have a completely flawle

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I listen to many genres of music and it's hard to compare this album to anything. The music is pretty much hardcore techno, but the vocals are usually vocals from Darren Styles himself. I personally enjoy his songs more and the way he chooses to sing over the songs. Something about the notes he chooses to sing reminds me of of like pop/punk/emo vocals. Some may take that as an insult, but I personally enjoy it. Sorta reminds me of the rock band "The Starting Line", except you have them here over hardcore techno beats. This isn't exactly music that will make you "cool" around the average person, but something you can listen to, feel, and jam out with yourself or other likeminded individuals. The closest things I could compare it to are the albums by Ultrabeat or Basshunter, but I think this surpasses them. If you took all the best songs from both discs, you could have a completely flawless album. However, I guess the more songs the better. I think Disc 1 is quite better than the 2nd. Overall, it's an album full of emotion, catchy choruses, and hard hitting beats. One of my favorite albums of 2008.

Here's my quick little personal opinion on every track.

Disc 1:

Flashlight - very powerful song

Come Running - Good song, it might have been better if it had Darren Styles do the vocals, but the music is good and has a nice catchy synth line and accoustic breakdown.

Getting better - not a bad song, but comapred to the rest of this album, it's forgettable.

Disco Lights - Very uplifting and fun song with Styles on vocals. Also produced with Ultrabeat.

Save Me - One of my favorites. Great lyrics, great vocals, full of emotion. Has a nice slow version on Disc 2.

Baby I'll Let You Know - Not bad for a song with a female on vocals. The music is nice.

I Say I Love You - Great music, would be nice to have had Styles on vocals.

Drop Zone - Instrumental track. You just have to love the breakdown in this song.

Show Me The Sunshine - One of my favorites that doesn't have Styles on vocals.

Skydivin' - Even though it's the title track, it's not as good as some of the rest. Still a sublime song though.

Jealous - More aggressive than the other songs. Not bad, gives the album variety.

Just Easy - I love this song. Nice and mellow. Styles semi-rapping, reminiscing at his career. One of my favorites.

Cutting Deep - Probably my least favorite song with Styles on vocals.

Lost the Plot - Hardcore jam with a reoccurring sample about somebody looking for drugs. Very fun song.

Slide Away - pretty much forgettable, even if it is a Breeze and Styles track.

Different Groove - Styles with a different style of vocals. Quick little energetic number.

Feel Love - Great song to end the album one. A nice little love song. Cute lyrics, great tune.

Disc 2:

Right By Your Side - Good song with vocals by Lois McConnell.

Save Me - Slower ballad of Save Me. I like the song enough to enjoy this one.

Tell Me - I'm not really feeling the female vocals on this one.

Girls Like You - I love this song. Very different style than the rest of the songs, but love it. Almost synth-popish.

I Need You - Vocals by Junior and I actually enjoy this one quite a bit.

Sure Feels Good - Some of the vocals on this song remind me of Evanescence. I think it's a decent song though.

Heartbeatz - Classic Breeze and Styles

Blow Me Away - eh. Nothing really makes this stand out.

Skydivin' - A mix of the song Skydivin. I might like this better than the original. Has a new wave, Devo-like vibe.

You're Shining - eh

Feel Love - Super slow version of the song Feel Love. Not too big on it.

Paradise and Dreams - Classic Ultrabeat and Styles song.

You're An Angel - One of my favorties on the entire album."
