"Though some of Perez's solos on this CD bear similarity to his devious playing on Panamonk, this collection is quite different. The Journey couples Perez's improvisation skills with his talents as a composer/arranger for a mid-sized ensemble. The results are delightful. In addition to Perez's heavily-rhythmic playing, the album boasts some really fine solos by David Sanchez. And while the appeal of this album may not be as instantaneous as much of the work on Panamonk, for me The Journey weathers better. It's a rare combination of beauty and intensity."
Brilliant conception

"Danilo Perez has put together an album with depth and daring that makes him one of the most promising jazz musicians of his time. His compositions are strong in originality and execution. He is certainly the one to watch as the Marsalis crowd seems stuck in the past."
