Synopsis

Amazon.com
For many bedroom producers, Daniel Bedingfield's debut must seem like a dream come true. A songwriter, home producer, and vocalist whose laptop recording of the title track was one of the biggest hits of 2001 in the UK, Bedingfield makes music that's one part Prince, one part Michael Jackson, and one part UK Garage. Poppy soul-funk in the vein of Cameo, he possesses a distinctive edge that sets him apart from countless other '80s revivalists. A softer side of Bedingfield emerges on "If You're Not the One," a ballad that could easily be dismissed as generic album-filling slush but, with a few listens, proves to be the kind of well-crafted song Jackson's Invincible lacked. One gripe: the re-recorded version of "Gotta Get Thru This," while far more polished and professional than its predecessor, lacks the infectious, raw groove of the original. Still, this album demonstrates how pop music should be made--with a strong emphasis on skill rather than image. --David Trueman

Fresh... Hypnotic... & New... Daniel Bedingfield

"I'll be honest. I didn't wanna buy this CD at first. I was afraid that everything would sound like Gotta Get Thru This. Don't get me wrong it's a great song, but I didn't want to spend [the money] to hear the same sound over again. If that's your fear, cast it aside and buy this CD. It's great and you'll be missing out on some great music if you pass this CD buy rather than picking it up. It's fresh & innovative and will have you dancing and feeling the pains of life as each track passes. This is what I call a good "life CD". It's filled with all kinds of emotions, so whatever kind of day you're having, there's a song for it on this disk. Your CD player will love this. Let me tell you of each track.1)Blown It Again - This could be considered filler, but it's pretty good filler. It's a track I don't mind listening to and bobbing my head with... if only the rap wasn't in here. (3.5/5)2)James Dean (I Wanna Know) - Hot song. Kinda hip-hop and kinda pop mixed together. Great dancing song. This is definately one to play at parties and clubs. Great beat and nifty lyrics help make this song a standout on this CD. (4.5/5)3)Gotta Get Thru This (D 'n' D Radio Mix) - Wow... what can I say. We've all heard this song and if you haven't, you must be living under a rock. This song never gets old and is an ultimate dance your [rear] off song. It's great, simple, and pure perfection. (5/5)4)If You're Not The One - This one of the best ballads I have ever heard in my life. It is truly amazing and full of raw emotions and feelings. This song proves Daniel Bedingfield has real talent... more than most male artists out there now. His voice in this song is perfect and he hits every note with outstanding grace. This will have you crying... seriously. (5/5)5)He Don't Love You Like I Love You - Nice, soft-upbeat song riding on the sounds of the acoustic guitar. Another great song that you will find yourself singing along to. (4/5)6)I Can't Read You - Nice song. His voice sings nicely on this track. This has an adult 40/VH-1 feel to it. It's pretty good. Reminds me of John Mayer for some reason. I could see him singing this. (4/5)7)Friday - The ULTIMATE dance song on the CD. You can't beat this. This is the "it" song... the best song on the disc. The lyrics make no sense, but that doesn't matter becuz it's obvious that they aren't meant to be the focus. The focus is the hypnotizing beat and sounds and just the sound of his voice. This song will have you dancing and bouncing before you even know you are. This is how to get the party started... by playing this song. (5/5)8)Honest Questions - A very beautiful ballad. Nice, soft, and extremely melodic. This is a very relaxing song and the instruments and overall feel of this song is simply beautiful. His voice is truly amazing... this song is worth the CD itself. Just absolutely astounding. (5/5)9)Girlfriend - It's an okay track. Kinda sounds like track 6. This isn't the best part of the CD, but it's still a nice song and nice to listen to. It's not quite filler, but it's almost there. Still... it's a pretty good song. (3.5/5)10)Without The Girl - This is a great song. It has that old-school R&B sound... that classic sound. It's a nice mid-tempo slow dance song. One of those slow-grooving songs. It reminds me of a song Babyface would sing... back when he was actually the stuff. Great song... worth every second. Great vocals. (4/5)11)Inflate My Ego - The first time I heard this song, it kinda freaked me out. I remember asking myself "What the heck is this?". It sounds like a really up-beat, spunky, fun show tune. But by the end of the song, I was in love with this song and you will be too. It's sooo different and that makes it great. One of the best songs on the CD. Extremely spunk-driven and funky. Great sound and you will be moving with it. I guarantee it. (4.5/5)12)Gotta Get Thru This (Acoustic) - Even better than the dance edit. WOW... one of the best if not the best. Songs great. This proves that Daniel Bedingfield has what it takes. This version gives the track more life and his great vocals make the meaning and feeling of the simple lyrics real. Nicely done (5/5) I won't go on anymore about how nice this CD is. You should know that by now. Buy it... you WILL NOT be let down. I promise. One of the great albums of 2002... but sadly it's overlooked. Don't make that mistake and overlook it, you'll be missing out on some good music.Final Score: 4.4"

"Daniel Bedingfield got a bad introduction to the US market. While "Gotta Get Through This" was a huge radio and club hit, it is absolutely not representative of DB's talents or abilities.Where he really shines the most is on the rest of the album. "If You're Not the One" was also a big hit in the US, and rightfully so - the lyrics and arrangement on this song are incredible. "James Dean" shows his funky side, while "Girlfriend" is a pop confection. "Honest Questions" has stunning lyrics and is beautifully sung. The acoustic version of "Gotta Get Through This" wraps up the American version of this album, and is an entirely different (and extremely enjoyable) presentation of the dance hit. For those of you who are still wanting more, check out the British version of this CD - it features three more acoustic versions of DB songs as well as another beautiful ballad, "Never Gonna Leave Your Side." It's rare these days to find an artist who isn't buried in millions of dollars in advertising and hype, let alone one who produces a CD containing songs you can like and listen to repeatedly. I am so glad I took a chance and bought this CD - it's become one of my favorite and I listen to it all the time. Can't recommend this one enough."
For the people!

"You just gotta love the success of Mr. Bedingfield! 'Gotta get thru this' - the song - was a lil' ditty that was placed on a dance compilation and it grew from people's requests. He is not the result of some corporation or concept. He is simply himself, the UK's people saw this and THEY made this song and artist huge!!! Sure, the amazon.com review that describes Daniel's music as "one part Prince, one part Michael Jackson, and one part UK Garage" is dead on. A lot of people are "wowed" by the ballads, his depth, etc. I see it: but I almost never buy an album based on that alone. Personally, I need a groove to, well, groove to! It's the faster songs that do it for me:1. Blown It Again
2. James Dean (I Wanna Know)
3. Gotta Get Thru This (D 'n' D Radio Mix)
6. I Can't Read You
7. FridayThe power and confidence in the guy's voice blow me away. He is young and figuring life out and no matter your age, you can always relate. There is not a lot of innovation here. No new frontiers to discover. Nope, all you have is a collection of well-written, expertly executed songs. You would never have guessed that most of this was done whilst sitting around in underwear. Hey, maybe it would put a smile on you face to imagine it...."
