Synopsis

Product Description
With the thunderous opening track of Dandi Wind s yolk of the golden egg one realizes that it belongs to that select group of sprawling, personal and complex electronic albums that eschew the clinical detachment of the genre in favor of passion and introspection. And like classic albums such as The Dreaming by Kate Bush, Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails or Silent Shout by the Knife, Yolk was hatched over years and with little outside involvement. From grief to rage to fantasy, often within the same track, Yolk is brimming with densely melodic production against Dandilion s singularly compelling lyrics. This is miles away from the dance floor fodder that dominates electronic music in the 21st century. Created entirely by Dandilion Wind Opaine and Szam Findlay, Yolk is a deeply personal diary of Quebec, poverty and the dream worlds Dandilion has built from the news, books and films that surround her. Yolk is sonically rich; from the unlikely combination of tribal chanting, cabaret and cacophonous feedback in Yo Pinok to the manic arpeggiated throb of Adolescent that recalls NDW, to Foundling Circle with it s kodo drumming and gamelan flourishes, onto the whispered hymn Powerball in it s glacial pulsing Yolk is an ambitious album: as varied as it is focused; drawing uniquely on Szan Findlay s years of classical training and previous electro-acoustical recordings. Also a video artist, sculptor and costume designer, Dandilion collaborated with noted Montreal photographer John Londono in the creation of the short film that shares the album's namesake, with the assistance of the Canada Council of the Arts. This video appears on this album. Also on this album are three additional vides of 'Powerball', 'A Lifetime' and 'In The Earth'.
