CD Reviews

Not his best, bye bye underground !

"I'm listening to trance since 6 years. About three years ago I moved from Europe to Florida. The first trance CD's I discovered where DJ Hardware's and than Micros first Micro Tech mix. I did love the CD for it's variety. The 2nd micro tech mix I did love even more. Good hard Trance that makes you move. Now after trance is the big wave here right now and lot's of american trance cd's later - finally the new micro. I have to say I was quiet disapointed by this release after I have heard nick warren, christopher lawrence, oakenfold etc.. It starts of very hard with a not to good song by micro and actually never get's really great. It's not a bad CD and for those who like very commercial agressive techno trance it will be a great pick. It reminds me a lot of cheesy commercial trance raves in germany which where fun but still.....not the real thing. If you prefer real trance you are better off going with other DJ's. This mix can be fun at the right place at the right time but it's definetely not one of the years best. Maybe just a little bit too "moonshiny". At the end it's of course all a matter of taste and trance is not trance as we all know. Most people like George Acostas "South beach style trance" too but I can't relate to it either."
Energetic and well-mixed, but not for everyone

"It's almost unfair that reviewers are asked to "rate" cd's on a unidimensional one-to-five-star system, as sometimes we can recognize that a cd is well-done, yet it's not necessarily our own particular cup of tea. For example, DJ Micro, a veteran of innumerable raves and trance parties, shows me in this mix that he's matured as a dj and has developed impressive mixing skills. His record box currently includes a variety of trance styles, and he certainly keeps up the energy from start to finish. I do like some of the songs he has included here: the infectious "Bangers and Mashed" by Baby Doc & S-J, Transa's "Supernova," and a fine Retroactive remix of Deepsky's "Stargazer" are standout tunes. However, in this day when there are now so very many trance mixes available for purchase, the question for a potential listener is whether DJ Micro makes one's "A list" of favorite dj's, and this ultimately will depend upon how one reacts to the distinctive styles and touches that the dj brings to the mix. In this case, I find that Micro seems far more enamored than I am with "tweaky" acid-trance, the type produced by the Roland TB-303 and similar machines. His previous "Micro-Tech Mix" was veritably dominated by this sound, much to my own dismay. This time, its presence is less pervasive, but when it comes time to wrap up the set, Micro has chosen a breakbeat-and-303-dominated track by Oscar called "M.A.D.," and for me, it's veritably unlistenable. I also found that Micro's own composition, "Sound Barrier," which begins the set, is nothing special. Plagued by what I consider a so-so start and a weak ending, this mix overall is reduced in my estimation from excellent to merely "good." I suspect that fans of previous DJ Micro mixes will like this one a lot. For some of the rest of us, however, this trance mix will not get played as often as will a lot of others that have emerged recently, including sets by the likes of Sasha, Nick Warren, John Digweed, Dave Seaman, etc."
Micro at his best

"I went out and bought "Tech-Mix 200" after experincing Micro live at Moonshine's OverAmerica tour a while back. To sum it up this CD captures all the energy he brings to the crowd, and packs it into one amazing album. With tracks set at a pace every fan can enjoy, you can't go wrong with this one if you love progressive trance. Highlight tracks include "Sound Barrier", "Bangers and Mashed", "Supernova", "Stargazer" & "Light up my life"."
