Synopsis
Album Description Few DJs or producers could claim to be as active and committed to their music as London?s DJ Hype. Gaining experience as part of the Heatwave Soundsystem (part of Shut Up & Dance). He?s built sound systems, A&R?ed for Kickin? Records, worked with both indies and majors, and hosted radio shows on the seminal Fantasy FM and Kiss. Hype has pioneered drum ?n? bass worldwide, fearlessly presenting all forms of the music to as many people as possible. Dubplate Killaz, DJ Hype?s latest project, features 20 brand new tracks and remixes from some of the main players of the drum ?n? bass massive, including Hazard, J-Majik & Wickaman, Potential Bad Boy, Pascal & Monty, Majistrate, UK Apache and Hype himself as well as Simon "Bassline" Smith and Shimon on the remix front. This highly anticipated project showcases some of the most talented producers in the field; each track representing what is arguably a demonstration of their best work ever. Similar CDs |
CD ReviewsUp to date DnB F. Hoffmann | Toronto CA | 04/08/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "Hype and his Ganja label are on the hard side of DnB. No Jazz, no ambient, no latin sounds, no funk, its pure DnB with 180 BPM from beginning to end. Technically, Hype has the reputation to be the best DnB-DJ. His trademarks are a very fat bassline, and his amazing scratching-abilities. Of course, all of that is present on this CD.
Dubplate Killaz is a selection of songs which were all brand new when it came out, and all of them have become dancefloor classics since then. You can say that it is a very up to date selection, because this is pretty much how DnB sounds at the moment. Many of the hard stuff coming out these days sounds very repetitive and becomes quite anoying when you listen to it outside of a club. It is the ability of Hype never to slow down and never to mix in anything soft, but not to be repetitive at the same time, which makes this album a 5-star album. Just when you think its getting boring he mixes in some reggae-sounds or some MC-ing and it fits perfectly. Additionally you will find some of the best DnB songs of the recent years, such as "look to the future", "gimme de gal", You're mine", "Crowd says reload" or "sun is shining bright". If you like the harder stuff and want to have a very up-to-date selection of DnB, this is a must have, maybe the best album of its kind." |
