"Do you salivate for sweet melodies? Does downtempo make you drool? Are you addicted to Acucrack? Then by Jove, "So to Speak" is for you!Although classified as a single, "So To Speak" should rightfully be considered an EP - there's nearly 40 minutes of music on this CD, in seven scrumptious 'Crack flavors. The radio edit is just that - an edit of the album version of "So To Speak", which appears in its entirety as the last track of the single. Sasha K(MFDM)'s remix is a chopped up, funkdafied take on the radio edit - and who wouldn't feel a little weak in the knees at the sound of Toni Halliday asking you to "play rough"? The Dome Room remix by Acucrack themselves is a patently percussive, four-on-the-floor stomper, which will undoubtledly be demolishing dancefloors very soon. Geist's Flakka remix of "So To Speak" does well to pick up the tempo and provide a vastly different, and unexpectedly heavy interperetation of the title track - very reminiscent of Acucrack's metal alter-ego, Acumen Nation. The other standout high-BPM track on this disc is from Temulent, a drum&bass virtuoso in his own right, who puts his own spin on "Malfader", creating a remix that is possibly eviller than the original - no small feat! Rounding out the single is a blast from Acucrack's past in the form of "Nation State", which is positively anthemnic - chant along and you'll understand. This single is really an excellent buy; for the length and broad range of genres represented on "So To Speak", you're getting lots of 'Crack for your buck."
