A Different Interpretation

"The Prague Philharmonic rendering of the Shoshtakovich 5th Symphony is noticeably slower, even a bit ponderous, compared to the more widely-known performances such as Bernstein with the NY Philharmonic. If you are familiar to the note with this magnificent piece of work, I commend the Prague performance as eye-opening (to me, at least) in the extreme. When it first begins, you might feel it's going to be tedious, but if you listen closely and begin to get a feel for the majesty, yearning, and triumph of the slower and perhaps even more colored performance, you won't be disappointed. The only problem is that Supraphon 3327 (Czech) is a little hard to find!"
