CD Reviews

D:A:D At Its Best
Bjorn Clasen | Rolléngergronn, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Europe | 10/01/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This double live CD from D:A:D is a masterpiece. An enthusiastic band from whom the joy of playing gigs is almost over-expressed... 'cause on a few songs, the wild vocals nearly become pure screaming...Especially on the songs »Grow Or Pay« and »It's After Dark«, the live experience comes out crazily beautifully. The solos, the chorus - also from the crowd - simply gets through at 100%! It ROCKS!!The highlights also include the classic »Laugh'N'A ½« as well as »Cloudy Hours«, »Reconstrucdead«, and »Sleeping My Day Away« - well, the selection of songs is really perfect, 'cause even from the not very appealing »Simpatico«, exactly the hearworthy songs have been put into this concert feast.After the 16 live songs, there is even space for a new recording, the impressive rock ballad »Jacketless In December«.This doublepack also contains live videos for Mac and PC."
D.A.D deliver the goods

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This album is a rollicking ride through the DAD live experience. Blasting off with Simpatico and then Empty Heads, two of the better tunes from the Simpatico album and then launching into the Riskin' It All era tune of Bad Craziness this is a band hellbent on telling you where they're coming from.

But it's not just a case of throwing everything at the listener. Their classic, and quirky, balladeering is also presented in tunes such as Grow or Pay.

Useful tidbits of info re this release;

Firstly it's not the recording of a single gig - you get stuff from all over the place. However the pacing of the whole affair is very good and the production qualities are consistent across both CD's.

The tunes represent the gamut of their career - long time fans will be pleased as will people who may have only come on board with Simpatico. The band seem to be having a blast regardless of what they're playing.

There is extra stuff accessable via computer that adds a bit of humour to the experience and is worth a quick look.

For any people who don't normally like live albums, figuring they own the definitive studio versions already, there is the previously unreleased studio track of Jacketless in December. This is a mellow tune that rounds out the discs nicely.

Any fan of raw rock 'n' roll should do themselves a favour and check out this release. An exuberant band who obviously know how to fire up a crowd. This album actually got me back into this band after I lost interest during the mid 90's."
