". . . if somewhat difficult to get into. Thus, the conflicted--may one say, niggardly--reviews.What's going on here? World metal? Loosy-goosy Brazilian vocal weirdness mapped onto some crazed world-jazz aesthetic? I don't know, and I don't care. It took me three complete listens to get on board with the vibe here (which is, admitedly, out there), but once on board I was a--thank goodness!!--convert. Romero Lubambo, esp., rocks. The percussive soundscapes defy imagining.Listen. You've got to set aside all expectations. I, too, was hoping for Vira Loucas bettered. I, too, was initially disappointed with the strange-sounding vibe, something I don't quite think I've ever encountered before.Just trust Cyro--he knows best. Just go with the--to these ears, at least--rather remarkable flow. Set aside all expectations. You won't be sorry."
Better live...

"...but what ensemble wouldn't be enhanced by Zorn and Ribot's frenetic wailing (or so I heard them play at Tonic, Dec 2002).This extraordinary group of percussionists led by everybody's favorite latino, Cyro, blew me away. The CD is nicely produced (thanks Tzadik) and has found its way into my permanent rotation. Hardcore metal rifs mingle with plucky guitar and vocals.Don't miss this group if they're playing near you. But in the meantime, purchase this CD and smile."
Magic

"I had the absolute pleasure to see this band live...They have the power in form of music and transported me to magic moments for the whole time the show last...I could've use another hour of live music...Well, them I purchase the CD...Could not be a better experience...Definitelly two magic moments."
Not bad, but I liked Vira Loucos a little better. 3.5 stars

"Some stellar musicians on this CD as well as his earlier Vira Loucos album - featuring the music of Villa Lobos. Great art-work and recorded well, I must admit. I haven't seen the live act - and if I had, perhaps I'd like the music a little more... I'd actually give it 3.5 stars..."
