CD ReviewsDitch the moon, go for the stars Travis M. Owens | 08/15/2002 (3 out of 5 stars) ""Gothic Love Song" is a single taken from the Soft Black Stars album. Only piano and vocals, the song has a delicate melancholy mood that sometimes verges on satire. With lines like:Your fake leather volumes jabbering on hell Manifest decadence was what you hoped you'd exhale Your fingernails painted black or blood red, I forgetit's hard to tell whether Tibet is inwardly laughing behind the "gothic" vocabulary, but in the end it hardly matters. This is some of the best vocal delivery - in his usual song-speak style - Tibet's ever done."Moon: Page 209" unfortunately, is another story entirely. A long droney number, rather metallic sounding, it's one of the worst industrial-noise pieces Current 93 has ever made (and their others aren't too good either). I really can't imagine anyone, even the most ardent noise ethusiasts, listening to this piece more than once.Buy Soft Black Stars instead of this single: you'll get "A Gothic Love Song" and a whole lot of other great stuff." Good track, but not worth the price. Travis M. Owens | Syracuse, NY USA | 08/30/2002 (3 out of 5 stars) "This was actually the very first release I heard from Current 93, along with a track they made on their collaberation with Michael Cashmore called "The Cat is Dead" and I was an instant fan. But I have a hard time recommending this CD because of the price you're going to pay is for only 1 song. For the music I gave it 4 stars but because of the price you have to pay for this rare import, it loses a point." Preview of new piano-based sound Renee L. Rosen-wakeford | London | 07/18/1998 (4 out of 5 stars) "This single has two tracks, "A Gothic Love Song" (an anti-love song, as well as a bitter yet darkly humorous and accurate criticism of the excesses of the goth movement) and "Moon..." The first track is a preview of their piano-based sound for their next full length, "Soft Black Stars" which is going to come out in the fall. "Moon..." is an enjoyable droney track. If the first track is indicative of the new C93 sound, fans should be in for a treat."
