Yardbirds - 'Cumular Limit' (Pilot)

"Wanted to review this 2-CD release in reverse order.Disc 2 is a video CD of a 16-minute segment from a 1967 German TV show 'Beat Beat Beat'.The band rips through "Shapes Of Things","Happening Ten Years Time Ago","Over,Under,Sideways,Down" and truly an ass-kicking version of "I'm A Man".Even though it's in black and white,it's a MUST have for any Yardbirds fan.Disc 1 has the same four tunes as disc 2,but obviously the audio portion plus some TOTALLY different/unheard versions of "White Summer","Glimpses" and "Dazed And Confused"(interesting to hear Keith Relf providing the vocals rather than Robert Plant).Added for good measure are a couple of tunes,that as far as I know are exclusive to this release,"Avron Knows","Taking A Hold On Me" and "You Stole My Love".Includes nice 12-page informative full color booklet with never before seen photos and text.A great find."

"I've been looking for this release for sometime and finally found it at the Austin Record Convention recently. To be honest I bought it for "White Summer" and "Dazed and Confused". Don't turn off the CD player at the end of "Dazed and Confused" because this is a 25 minute song - at the 15:30 mark there is a sonic psychadellic thing going on - possibly something looped and played backwards? Be sure to have your water pipe or a fatty available for this onslaught.

I like all the tracks except for "10 Little Indians" - too psychadellic for me.

I wasn't paying attention to "I'm A Man" when I first heard it on the CD, but on the video you can see Page do a great bow solo at the end. The whole video is great - nothing like what I expected.

If you pop the second CD in the CD player there is a 25 minute interview that is pretty cool also.

I would recommed this new or used. 5 Stars!!"

"Back in 1985 the local radio station was playing a tribute to the Yardbirds,The one song I was taken back by was the song "Dazed and confused " Which is on this CD !!Which I thought was only a Led Zep tune , I was aware that Jimmy Page was the Last lead guitar player with the Yardbirds , But still it was interesting to hear it since I never heard the song before except by Led Zep! There are two CD's here The second CD is a video and you will need to install Quicktime Player which is included on this CD to down load in order to watch it on your computer if you play the CD you will hear the interview .The video is black and white and play back is excellent ! The first CD is the concert and extra tracks Also included is a bookelt of the band with pictures The music hear is of the later Yardbirds and not the top 40This is a great CD to add to any collecton Enjoy!"

"I gave the Cumular Limit CD a 4 rating because(a small infraction),it did not include a song that would overshadow the "dazed" track so highly praised on the review board..I am refering to the long lost track "KNOWING THAT I'M LOSING YOU" AKA "TANGERINE",that was originally supposed to be included on this fanstastic CD...It leaves the listener a little disappointed and hungry with knowledge on what this missing track would have sounded like! Thanks to Mr Page(Read the revised Ultimate Rave up book for the reason),This Cd is very historic to the Yardbirds/Zep fans around the world as a document to the world of the psychedelic/Hard Rock genre that was taking off during the late 60's.. I actually like Cumular Limit better than the BBC cd which to me sounded too clean and refined(The yardies were really a prototypical nascent heavy-metal group),these last recording before the unfortunate split demonstrate the sheer talent and power of what direction the band was heading in.The Yardies Little Games album was a disappointment,but listen to "Smile on me","Think about it" "You stole my love" and "Never Mind" simply amazing! eventhough most of the tracks are of unfinished quality..The Yardies have always fancinated me,I prefer the later stuff opposed to Clapton and Beck(Clapton wasn't very polished at that time and Becks playing wasn't as raunchy as it could have been),I also don't understand why the video of Dazed wasn't included on this cd?THE SONG ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE CD but the video would have been a nice accompiant to the song...If you like the 'pop' sound of the group,start off with Rodger the Engineer,if you like the heavier darker Psych,then check out Cumular Limit! Maybe one day Tangerine will be included,provided Pagey relents...."

"It was great to hear Yardbird songs when Jimmy Page was lead guitarist. These songs you rarely hear on the radio. I was impressed with the "lost" songs from the spring 1968 sessions. Most "lost" songs should stay lost. The album was truly a rocker and you can clearly hear that the Jimmy Page sessions were precursors to Led Zeppelin. I took off one star because Of the poor quality of the live set in the beginning and the interview on the second disc. Both were unlistenable, perhaps due to recording techniques of the time. All in all a terrific album."
