Synopsis

Product Description
Anyone even remotely hovering the periphery of the independent avant rock/psyche/ experimental underground should be well aware of Cul de Sac. First blazing into the stratosphere with ECIM in 1992 (Northeastern/Rough Trade), Cul de Sac quickly drew universal praise for itsÕ heady bricolage of 60Õs psychedelia, Krautrock grooves, surf guitar trajectories, electronic washes, American folk influences & Middle Eastern trance. Cul de Sac have since released four classic albums for Thirsty Ear/Flying Nun/Nuf Sed & a slew of 7Ó singles. For their first release in three years, Strange Attractors mines the vaults & unearths a stupendous diamond in the rough, the cosmically happy ÒaccidentÓ, Immortality Lessons. Planetary alignment must have been underway in the cosmos that day, for Immortality Lessons congeals a seriously magical performance under the weight of some unflattering technical odds. Captured live in a tiny studio on WBRS radio one afternoon in 1999, what seemed like everything gone wrong resulted in a performance of the ages

CD Reviews

Cul De Sac - 'Immortality Lessons' (Strange Attractors)
Mike Reed | USA | 12/26/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I can't believe I'm actually the first person to review this disc on here.'Immortality...' is the band's fifth effort.Sort of tough to describe their sound.Try,a combination of post-rock experimental and avant garde.Does that make much sense?Unusual story behind the making of this CD.Apparently the group played a radio gig at Brandeis University in summer,1999.At first, the members assumed it was a piece of recorded crap.Later, the taped performance turned out to be one of the best live shows they ever did play.As I've listened to this CD several times,I thought the best tracks were the tunes that ran over the ten minute mark,"The Dragonfly's Bright Eye" and the jammin' "Blue In E".Well worth seeking out a copy to play during the later hours.Might appeal to fans of Tortoise,Flying Saucer Attack,Jessamine and possibly Spiritualized."
