CD ReviewsA great contemprary country album 02/14/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "A fantastic collection of songs, worth having. In fact, this 1992 set of songs sounds like it could come out today. I bought it when it was new, pulled it out recently and was pleasantly surprised to see how well it has held up. Crystal's voals, as always, are superb. Her sweet-sultry honey-soaked voice is in top form. And it's nice to hear Crystal move beyond her usual set of love ballads she's done in the past (excellently, by the way) to the countrier, more story-oriented side of things. She doesn't often record songs with choruses like "If the Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me," a nice mid-tempo ode to leaving heartbreak behind. "Three Good Reasons" is the catchy title track about a single mom learning to make it on her own; I've never heard Crystal sing a story like this and both she and the song really lift you up as it goes along. Of course, with Crystal there's got to be a searing ballad, and with "A Rose Between Two Thorns" she delivers a poignant song about divorce with an exquisite tear in her voice. I'll admit I'm a fan, but I think anyone with country leanings and a penchant for a skilled, beautiful voice will really enjoy these songs. Can't understand why this wasn't a huge comeback album for Crystal--it should have been." Excellent cd from Crystal caj | 05/04/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "I wasn't expecting a lot with this cd - mainly because I wasn't familiar with the producer. I should've known that if Crystal was involved, it was going to be excellent.
What an amazing surprise. This has actually become one of my favorite Crystal cds - which is saying a lot. Love To Cant' Do, Why Cry, One Less Set of Footsteps, and the title track are all excellent. there's not an inferior song on this set. So glad I ordered it." |
