"This was my very first jazz album. Actually it was a cassette, and I wore the coating off. I used to play along with it, in between my trumpet studies. Suffice it to say The Crusaders have stood the test of time far better than I. It was amazing how the music lifted me and drove me at age 14 - and is so soothing today. The combination of the tenor sax, trombone, and piano sound like a group of friends sharing time together - often fun, sometimes odd but not discordant, sometimes just gabbing and having a ball."

"I first heard an excerpt from this album on a late night F.M. station in Chicago in 1972 ~ Coming from a rock background, I was totally humbled by the professionalism of the musicians on this album. The brass work of Wayne Henderson and Wilton Felder is simply remarkable. Joe Sample keyboards and Stix Hooper's percussion weave simple yet complex rythmns on every cut, especially on "Cold Duck Eddie" & "Way Back Home". This is one of those monumental efforts that after hearing it, your only response can be ~ "Where have these guys been my whole life?" or better yet "Where have I been their whole life?" This is a must have album for any jazz, rock, soul afficiando ~ It is smooth, elegant, and beyond exceptional."
