Pretenders to the Mod Revival Throne?

"Ok, it is 1979 and the Who film Quadrophenia has just been released and Britain is in the throws of a major MOD (2nd) revival. The Jam, around since 1976, are in the lead and certainly the most well known output of the day. A flurry of pub rockers turned modsters followed, but The Crooks certainly had the leg up on all the rest! Most likely you never got to hear this band. The Crooks could write songs and not merely ape the current mod trend. "Just Released," is their one and only long player and it is well worth seeking out this new CD release on Captain Oi. I rate them much better than all the rest of the mod-pack of the day. This release has aged better than Secret Affair or The Chords. This CD has their full 1980 album and single bonus tracks for good measure. I would have liked Captain Oi to start giving us better (i.e, more in-depth) essays on the bands - but I praise them for giving us a chance to hear the MODERN BOYS once again."
