A Live Recording With More To Offer Than Most Studio Albums

"There are very few essential live albums. This is one of them. Only four songs (including the unlisted bonus track Come On) are available in studio form elsewhere. The rest of the tunes that comprise this concert were intended for the band's second full length, which never came about because of their untimely split. So this CD presents a compelling blueprint for what might have been. The sound could best be described as Prog Punk. Crispy Ambulance combine the fury of punk with the gorgeously weird moog synthetics of Prog and Krautrock bands from the seventies like Popol Vuh, Pink Floyd, and Faust. Musically speaking, the closest thing to it would be Magazine's Secondhand Daylight. But Howard Devoto's vocal style is so different that I'm not sure making the comparison does much good. In short, Crispy Ambulance may take some getting used to, but their brilliance is undeniable. I envy you the pleasure of hearing them for the first time."
