This is an extra CD included with their original 2004 release "One Soul Now" covering songs by such artists as bruce springsteen and townes van zant. The songs fit nicely with their style especially when they do fellow canadian neil young's "helpless."

The junkies can do no wrong

"The five songs on this very limited release EP are all covers of some of the musicians that have influenced the great Cowboy Junkies. It starts off with a version of Springsteen's "Thunder Road." I first heard the Junkies play this live in concert and once I heard the recorded version, I quickly realized it was my favorite cover version of any song ever. They took Springsteen's song of youth and unfulfilled hopes and really brought out the melancholy side of the lyrics. Sure, they skipped a verse, but it is a fantastic rendition. Second comes a Cure song that I'd never heard before, mostly because I'm not a fan of the Cure. And I'm not really a fan of this song, even when done by the Coyboy Junkies. Third on the EP is a great cover of "Lungs," written by Townes Van Zandt. Townes covers are found on several of the Junkies albums and this one is as good as all of them, except the the amazing "To Live Is To Fly" found on "Black Eyed Man." The EP follows with "Darkness, Darkness," first done by the Youngbloods. I've never heard the original here, either, but I can say that the Junkies version is definitely dark. Finally, the Junkies wrap it up with a cover of Neil Young's "Helpless." Again, Young is one of the favorites of the Junkies and I've heard them perform at least five different songs of his live. They do a great job with this version. If you can somehow get your hands on this EP, you are sure to love it, especially if you are a Cowboy Junkies fan, or a fan of Canadian music, or music in general."
Excellent covers

"Track listing:

1. Thunder Road (Springsteen)

2. Seventeen Seconds (Gallup, Simon, etc.)

3. Lungs (Van Zandt)

4. Darkness, Darkness (Jesse Colin Young)

5. Helpless (Neil Young)

Worth getting for the Springsteen alone. Amazon doesn't have it for sale, but I doubt if it's out-of-print."
