"For all you kids out there listening to minor imitation bands like "Cherry Poppin' Daddies", know that this is the REAL DEAL: Count Basie was, is, and always will be the true king of swing. This album of his great "Old Testament" band of the late 30s -- the apex of the swing era -- is a fantastic and nicely priced introduction to his infectiously swinging style. Everything on it is great, but especially "John's Idea", "Shorty George", and the anthem of the entire Swing Movement, "One O'Clock Jump." Hear Lester Young's sax wail!"
