"This killer box set covers most of Basie's best in studio work from 1936 to 1945 when he had the best band around, bar none. We are talking about some of the very best jazz musicians of all time: Lester Young, Herschel Evans, Buck Clayton, Don Byas, Sweets Edison and the monster rhythm section of Freddy Green, Walter Page and Jo Jones. Of course the Count himself was no slouch on the piano and add the vocals of Jimmy Rushing and Helen Humes and you've got 4 discs of music you can listen to over and over again without it ever growing stale. There is simply not a less than very good song in the lot. JSP once again does a fine remastering job. Even if you have the 3 disc Complete Decca set, much of which is included here, it's still well worth it to get this one too."
