Synopsis

Product Description
The Cottars have the same kind of drive and energy The Chieftains had when we were first starting out. With their combination of incredible musicianship, amazing voices and wonderful dancing, what a future they have ahead of them!
- Paddy Moloney, The Chieftains

This exciting new recording by Cape Breton Island's, The Cottars, is a bridge from the deep Scottish and Irish beginnings of Cape Breton Celtic music to a new emerging roots music that blends American folk music with Celtic overtones as well as blending age old instrumental and vocal material with fresh new compositions that offer an early view into a very promising evolution for this young emerging group.

The original "Cottars" was a very talented, original, traditional group. The new group is not. Their Music is more of a tv ad campaign lame pop variety. The real talent must have been with the MacKenzie siblings. I do not recommend this CD.

A meltingly beautiful voice pulls you in to a lovely world

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ah, but then you listen again to the melodies and realize that all the players in this group are graced, not only with skill, but also an abiding love for the music that they are presenting to us.

The MacGillivray siblings have been joined by two other exceptional musicians, veteran guitarist Bruce Timmons and young, multi-talented Clair Pettit, adding strength and depth to the sound that they have been perfecting for much of their young lives. They're world class already, and show promise of even greater things to come.

Personal favorites on this CD are Your Love's Return, The 23rd of June, and Hymn for N. Seek out their previous offerings as well, especially Forerunner, with the gorgeous cover of Karine Polwart's masterful, evocative Waterlily.
